Assignment: Portfolio Reflections
Overview: Kihei Charter School student portfolios are a collection of work samples and reflections accumulated over a student’s high school career. Students are expected to reflect on their work every quarter to demonstrate growth over time in both the 21st Century Skills and in content knowledge.
Student portfolios are the focus of student led conferences during second quarter, and are the guiding document for the student’s portfolio defense/exit interview at the end of their senior year, a graduation requirement at the charter school. Students created the framework for their portfolios during advisory, and portfolio reflections are assessed by the student’s advisor.
As you work on this portion of your intersession work, remember your portfolio is unique to you. It should be creative and visually appealing. It should also look professional; no online games, cartoons, inappropriate content, etc. The goal is for you to have a well-developed and complete portfolio to share your skills and experience when you enter the post-secondary and professional world.
All Portfolio work will be graded according to the rubric at the end of this document. It is strongly recommended you read through the grading rubric before starting your work so you know exactly what is expected.
Assignment:
To complete this assignment, choose four pieces of work from this school year. This work can be in-class assignments, projects, homework, anything you feel is substantial enough to provide material for reflection. The four pieces of work you select need to demonstrate your abilities in the four 21st century skills YOU HAVE NOT YET reflected on in your portfolio this year.
For each assignment you choose, use the reflection graphic organizer below to help you organize and write a well written, multi-paragraph essay about the assignment.
Action: Upload each of your four reflections to the Google page of the associated 21st Century Skill. This means you will have four total reflections, each falling under a different 21st Century Skill, for a total of four 21st Century Skills covered.
